Configure Email on an Android Device Print

Configuring Your Email on Your Mobile Devices.

Unfortunately every brand of Cell Phone or Mobile Device requires slightly different steps to configure, therefore making it highly difficult for us to provide specific Instructions for each Individual brand, model or version. However, the required settings for configuring an email are the same regardless of the make and model of the device.

 

NOTE: The settings for Cellular Devices are the same as Configuring your Desktop Email Client.

 

The Instructions on this Page Assume you have Already created the email account on the server.

 

NOTE: You will need to know what type server your email is Hosted on to use these Instructions. If you are not sure of the server Type please see the Article "What Type Server Is My Email Hosted On" To determine your server type.

 

  1. Open the Email app on your smartphone.
  2. Tap Add account.
  3. Tap Other and then Next.
  4. Enter your full email address and tap Next.
  5. Choose the type of email account you will be using.Enter the password for your email address and tap Next
    • POP3 will download the emails from the server and store them on your device
    • IMAP will store the emails on the server and show a cached copy on your device.(recommended)
  6. Enter the password for your email address and tap Next

Incoming Server Settings

Username: Enter your full email address
Password: Enter the password for your email account

Server: This is your domain name preceded by “mail.” i.e: mail.example.com.
Port and Security Type (varies depending on the type of email account chosen in previous steps)
POP:
Secure – Port: 995 and Security Type: SSL/TLS (Accept all certificates)
Insecure – Port: 110 and Security Type: None
IMAP:
Secure – Port: 993 and Security Type: SSL/TLS (Accept all certificates)
Insecure – Port: 143 and Security Type: None (Accept all certificates)
Once the settings are entered, tap Next.

Outgoing Server Settings

Select Require Sign-In or Outgoing Server Requires Authentication (the name of this option varies per app version)
Username: Enter your full email address
Password: Enter the password for your email account

For SMTP Port and Security Type, choose either:
Secure – Port: 465 and Security Type: SSL/TLS (Accept all certificates)
Insecure – Port: 26 or 587 and Security Type: None (Accept all certificates)
After the required settings are entered, tap Next.
